Once you learn to read, you will be forever free-Frederick Douglass

The Reading Is Freedom library idea came about as a clarion call to link literacy to liberation. Since reading had been denied to Black people due to enslavement we wanted to turn that around by having books in these RIF libraries in our communities that reflect Black people, culture and experiences. These are books that the community can take and they can also donate books for others to have as well.
